the house for clues but the break was on saturday morning when police found principal brian betts' suv parked behind a children's ministry. his vehicle was discovered by this neighbor. >> i noticed the vehicle and asked one of my neighbor's whose vehicle it was because it is on private property. >> reporter: the suv was found 14 miles from brian betts silver spring home where the 42- year-old principal was found shot to death last thursday. his colleague failed to alert authorities. and his body was found inside of an upstairs bedroom. police releasing few details but they believe brian betts was killed by someone he let in his home. there were no signs of a break in and several items were found missing from his home. they are trying to zero in on who was with brian bettses in the final hours. brian betts was a beloved principal and described as a superstar educator who was instrumental in turning this school around for teachers and

students that are returning to school this morning for the first time since their principal was found dead it will be a sad morning. they are planning to pay tribute to him and they will hear from some of them at 5:30. for now, back to you. dc police are also looking for suspects in a couple of shooting incidents. officers found two men shot yesterday in northwest washington near the intersection of north capitol and o streets. another man found shot on moore street northeast. at last word all three victims were reported to be in stable condition. the search is on for a gunman who killed an 18-year- old college student from front royal, virginia. police in houston say gun fire erupted after a fight at a late- night party. freshman joshua -- died from a shot in this back and another student was shot in the ankles. police in western maryland have a suspect in custody after a deadly shooting in frostburg state university. tyrone hall of glen burnie is

accused of shooting two classmates in the some tack. bran dune carroll of waldorf died and ellis hartridge is recovering from his injuries. police say that hall fired the shots when a group of students insulted him. british authorities have decided to stay close until at least tomorrow. eu officials hope ash from the iceland volcano has cleared enough to run half of the scheduled flights. sunday only 5,000 of the normally 24,000 flights in european air space got in to the air. hundreds of thousands of passengers across the world are stranded. >> we don't know how long we will be here. >> i'm a student. i don't have that much money so i hope i don't have to stay here for a long time. >> reporter: even when flights return to normal it could take

district. 70 firefighters rushed to maryland avenue on saturday afternoon after a clerk in a tobacco shop smelled smoke. five people who lived above the shops have been displayed. they say george washington couldn't tell a lie. according to the new york daily news he couldn't return his library books on time either. the new york society library is trying to track down two books taken out by the first president. they were supposed to be returned november 2nd, 1789. now they are 220 years overdue. the missing books are laws of nations and volume 12 of the common debate. they don't care about the $300,000 fine. they just want the books back. pope benedict xvi makes promises to victims of priest abuse. that story is coming up. nasa is monitoring the skies to see whether the

back to you. we have a commuter alert that could help some of you get to work faster. virginia railway express will soon offer an express train in the mornings to relieve crowding on other trains. it is scheduled to start july 19th. a four car train will leave fredericksburg at 5 after 5:00 in the morning and six six stops on the way to union station. they say this train will save riders about 20 minutes. a town hall meeting on i-66 postponed by the february snowstorms is happening tonight. the meeting starts at 7:00 at the fairfax county government center. area lawmakers will discuss possible ways to reduce gridlock on the interstate including establishing a bus rapid transit system increasing use of shoulder lanes and opening some interchanges to nonhov vehicles. detectives in montgomery county have spend the weekend looking for clues in the murder of a dc principal. students at shawn middle school

will return to class for the first time since learning of brian betts death. 9 news now reporter kristin fisher is joining us with more on the investigation. >> reporter: good morning. as you said montgomery county police have been working this case very hard over the weekend but aren't saying too much about their progress. at this time they have made no arrests. all we know is on sunday detectives spent several hours combing brian betts home for clues but the big break came on saturday morning that's when montgomery county police found brian betts suv parked behind a children's ministry in southeast dc. his navy blue, steven nissan xterra was discovered 14-miles from his home where the 42-year- old was found shot dead last thursday. his criminal leagues attempted to alert authorities after he failed to show up for work. his body was found in an upstairs bedroom. police are keeping quiet about the investigation.

under the neighborhood. >> the debris at times is arsenic contaminated soil so we take that up as well. >> they have been digging since 2007, next to american university president's house and south korean embassy. residents have health concerns and are demanding answers. >> i would hope they would be transparent about the history of the situation. what they have found in the past and what they have looked for. >> i asked the army corps if they would provide a list of the various chemicals they detected this past year. they have this information but they didn't provide it. >> reporter: the residents are asking for what is called a conceptual site model that is a comprehensive report on the site containing history and potential warfare agents that might be still buried there. >> last tuesday, i asked them could they provide us with three examples of the best conceptual site values to spring valley. they said it is a reasonable
